Community Highlines Film Festival

About the Community Highlines Film Festival

The Community Highlines Film Festival is a celebration of the fearless spirit and artistry of highlining documentaries. Our festival is dedicated to sharing all stories—big or small—that showcase the passion, creativity, and boundary-pushing endeavors of athletes within our community. Through this event we want to uplift all parts of our community and use a portion off the revenue to provide gear to underrepresented communities

Our Story: Inspiration and Founding

Our journey began with a simple yet powerful idea: to create a platform for highline athletes whose stories have long gone unnoticed. Inspired by the need for representation in a sport that demands both daring and dedication, we launched the first edition of the festival to give these incredible storytellers a voice. It was our mission to not only highlight the beautiful spectrum of athletic achievement but also to ensure that every film reflects the heart and soul of the community.

2024 Film Festival

Highlights from Our Inaugural Festival

In October 2024, we hosted our first film festival in Boulder—a groundbreaking event that exceeded our expectations. Featuring six diverse films from some of the sport’s most inspiring athletes, the festival was met with overwhelming enthusiasm. This success marked a turning point, confirming that there was a tremendous appetite for authentic highline documentary storytelling and a strong community eager to support these stories.

Film Prize Winners and Sponsors

We’d like to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who helped make this event possible—from the filmmakers who submitted their incredible stories to our supportive sponsors. Special thanks go to Prana Yoga Slackers, Prana, Backcountry, FjallRaven, Gibbon, and Slackhouse, as well as our tier one sponsors, Balance Community, Spider Slacklines, and the Trickline Collective. Congratulations to the outstanding winners: “Highlining Tre Cime” for earning the Slackline Film of the Year Award sponsored by Balance Community, “Desire Lines” for the Trick Line Collective Stay Creative Award, and “Return to Sender” for the Spider Slackline Stoke Award. Your passion and dedication continue to inspire us all.

The Future

The Road Ahead: Expanding Our Reach

Building on the early success in Boulder, we’re excited to announce that this year’s festival will take place in December with an ambitious expansion plan. We are gearing up to host three film nights across the United States: one on the East Coast, one in Boulder once again, and another on the West Coast (locations to be announced). Our goal is to connect and uplift a broader audience, reinforcing our commitment to celebrating the unique challenges, adventures, and innovations within the highline community. Looking further ahead, we have our sights set on an international stage, bringing global recognition to these compelling stories.

Community Impact and Commitment

At the heart of the Community Highlines Film Festival is a dedication to uplifting underprivileged communities. Beyond celebrating cinematic excellence, a portion of every year’s revenue is dedicated to sending highline gear to those who might otherwise be left behind. This commitment ensures that more aspiring athletes from underrepresented backgrounds can safely explore and dive deeper into the sport. We see our festival as not only a showcase of outstanding documentaries but also as a catalyst for positive change, fostering a more inclusive and accessible highlining community for all.
